University of Kigali is committed to promoting environmental sustainability and supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our initiative encourages every household to plant five fruit trees, which not only enhances local biodiversity but also contributes to a more sustainable future.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and APEFA, our partner CECI organized this initiative. The University of Kigali represented by Ruth Mbabazi, MBA (Coordinator, UoK Enterprise Business Center/Hub) and UoK students, has actively participated in its implementation of this initiative in Kicukiro District, Masaka Sector, Ayabaraya Cell, specifically in the villages of Nyamico and Nyamyijima.
According to the coordinator, Ms. Ruth the importance of planting trees cannot be overstated in an age marked by deforestation, climate change, and environmental degradation. Trees beautify landscapes and play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance, improving air quality, conserving water, and supporting biodiversity. With the increasing threats to our planet’s ecosystems, tree planting has emerged as one of the most effective and accessible actions to ensure a sustainable future.
