The University of Kigali (UoK), and Superior University in Pakistan, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) establishing a framework for exploring future institutional and academic collaboration between the two private Universities.
The agreement marks an important step towards strengthening connections between higher education institutions in Rwanda and Pakistan and creating opportunities for knowledge exchange, academic cooperation and international engagement.
The MoU provides a framework for continued discussions between the two institutions and is intended to guide the development of a future Partnership and Collaboration Agreement, subject to the necessary institutional approvals, regulatory requirements and mutually agreed terms.
Under the proposed areas of cooperation, the two Universities will explore opportunities in Medical and Health Sciences, Aviation and Aviation-related programmes, joint and collaborative academic programmes, student and academic mobility, research and innovation, knowledge exchange, and quality assurance as well as institutional development.
Commenting on the partnership after the signing ceremony that took place at UoK Remera campus, Prof. George Kimathi, Vice Chancellor of the University of Kigali, said the MoU provides an opportunity to broaden the University’s international academic engagement.
“This MoU opens an important pathway for the University of Kigali to expand international academic collaboration and create new opportunities for our students, faculty and researchers.”
He added that international partnerships remain important in connecting students and academics to new ideas, expertise and opportunities beyond their immediate academic environments.
Mr. Chaudhry Hamza Rehman, Vice President of Superior University, welcomed the opportunity to explore areas of mutual interest with the University of Kigali.
“We look forward to exploring meaningful areas of collaboration with the University of Kigali and building a partnership that promotes knowledge exchange and academic excellence.” He said.

The proposed cooperation also includes student and staff mobility, potentially providing opportunities for academic and professional exposure across the two institutions. Such initiatives can contribute to international learning experiences while strengthening institutional and cultural connections between the two countries.
As Rwanda and Pakistan continue to strengthen connections across different sectors, the partnership provides an opportunity for their higher education institutions to build bridges between East Africa and South Asia, while creating new possibilities for students, academics and researchers.
