In a bold step toward promoting sustainable transport and technological innovation, the University of Kigali (UoK) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Murang’a University of Technology (MUT) of Kenya and Ecomobilus Technologies Limited (ETL). The partnership, spearheaded by UoK’s Directorate of Research and Innovation, aims to develop and implement cutting-edge electric mobility solutions in Rwanda and the wider region. This agreement aligns with Rwanda’s vision for sustainable development and represents a significant leap in the region’s e-mobility landscape.
Murang’a University of Technology, known for its expertise in engineering and renewable energy, brings a wealth of academic and technical resources to the table. Ecomobilus Technologies Limited, a leader in e-mobility and clean energy solutions, contributes its cutting-edge innovations and industry expertise.
Dr Ronald Kwena Director Research and Innovation at the University of Kigali, noted that this agreement comes timely when the University of Kigali is embracing Green research. “This collaboration reinforces UoK’s Directorate of Research and Innovation’s commitment to driving innovation and sustainability. By working together, we aim to create a robust framework for electric mobility solutions that address pressing environmental and social challenges.” Dr Kwena emphasized the importance of the partnership.
For students, the MoU represents an unparalleled opportunity to engage in hands-on learning, also promises to catalyze the growth of Rwanda’s e-mobility sector, reduce carbon emissions, and enhance regional collaboration. As part of the agreement, the institutions will jointly host conferences, innovation days, and exhibitions to showcase their progress and share knowledge with a wider audience. The immediate beneficiaries of this agreement is the International conference on Green and Sustainable Development scheduled to take place from March 10 – 12, 2025 in Kigali Rwanda (https://uok.ac.rw/annual-conference/ ) and the newly established journal of finance and management sciences (https://uok.ac.rw/journal-of-financial-and-management-sciences/ ).
The partnership sets the stage for transformative change, with immediate plans to establish shared research facilities and launch training programs. By fostering collaboration between academia and industry, this MoU not only aligns with Rwanda’s sustainability goals but also positions the University of Kigali as a leader in e-mobility and innovation in the region.
