UoK Hosts Delegates from SWPS University, Poland

On October 24, 2025, UoK Director of International Affairs and Partnership had the pleasure of hosting two distinguished delegates from SWPS University, Poland: Alicja Kotłowska (LL.M., MBA, MSc, MA), Vice-Rector’s Representative for International Affairs and Researcher in the Social Sciences Division, and Radosław Stanczewski, Director of the Office for International Cooperation. The meeting provided an excellent platform for both institutions to share insights about their academic programs, research initiatives, and internationalization strategies. During the visit, both parties discussed opportunities for collaboration and agreed to work towards a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which has since been signed, as well as an Inter-Erasmus+ Institutional Agreement, which is in its final stages of formalization. The discussions also included exploring participation in international conferences, with plans to initially join online and attend in person in the future. Delegates expressed their admiration for the University of Kigali, noting its impressive facilities and academic excellence. A visit to SWPS University in Warsaw was scheduled for May, providing another opportunity to deepen ties and explore joint projects.

Staff Mobility – Ostrava (Erasmus+ ICM)

University of Kigali is pleased to highlight the successful participation of our Director of International Affairs and Partnership in a five-day staff mobility programme hosted by the University of Ostrava, Czech Republic. Facilitated through the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility (ICM) Programme, this engagement advanced our institutional goals in internationalisation, partnership development, and capacity building. The mobility took place at the Faculty of Social Studies and brought together international administrative and academic staff from partner universities across Europe and Africa, further strengthening connections through the Staff Mobility Visit to the University of Ostrava Czech Republic Under the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility Programme. Programme Highlights Day 1 opened with registration and a warm institutional welcome. Sessions introduced: The University of Ostrava’s structure and internationalisation strategy The role of International Relations Offices in institutional development Reflections on 10 years of Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility Staff Mobility – Ostrava (Erasmus+ ICM) The day concluded with a guided city and campus tour, offering cultural and academic orientation to the host institution. As a result, the programme effectively demonstrated the impact of staff mobility visits to the University of Ostrava, Czech Republic under the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility Programme. On Day 2 participants explored the structure and administration of joint degree programmes, a key tool for deep collaboration in higher education. This was followed by tailor-made faculty meetings, where possible areas for collaboration—including co-teaching, student mobility, and research links—were discussed. In addition, the Staff Mobility Visit to the University of Ostrava Czech Republic Under the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility Programme fostered meaningful academic exchanges. A vibrant social event and quiz offered opportunities for networking in an informal setting. Day 3 began with an insightful session on Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), highlighting digital pathways to global learning experiences. Participants also shared their institutional profiles during the Presentation of Partner Universities segment. Moreover, the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility Programme made staff mobility visits to Ostrava, Czech Republic highly collaborative for university partners. A hands-on workshop titled “Building and Sustaining Global Partnerships” provided practical tools for strengthening long-term international cooperation. The day ended with a guided excursion through Dolní Vítkovice, a cultural and technological landmark of Ostrava. This event underscored the value of partnership development through the Staff Mobility Visit to the University of Ostrava Czech Republic Under the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility Programme. Day 4 centred on a group activity aimed at co-creating ideas for future cooperation among partner institutions. Teams explored possibilities such as: Exchange of administrative best practices Joint virtual and physical mobility projects Joint research and training initiatives Strengthening Erasmus+ pathways for both staff and students The session fostered meaningful collaboration and the identification of shared priorities. The day was concluded by a dinner, showcasing the lasting benefits brought by the Staff Mobility Visit to the University of Ostrava Czech Republic Under the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility Programme.   The final day provided space for: Final reflections on learning outcomes A summary of key institutional insights and partnership opportunities Completion of the mobility programme evaluation Participants highlighted the programme’s practical orientation, rich networking opportunities, and potential for deeper collaboration under Erasmus+ and beyond. UoK launches Career Accelerator Programme

Our University through the Office of the Director of International Affairs and Partnership, officially launched the Work Readiness and Career Accelerator Programme on Monday, 10th November 2025, at Lab 6, Kigali Campus. The Programme ran from 10th to 14th November 2025, featuring expert facilitators from Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator (Rwanda), Professors Without Borders (UK), CAP-Youth Empowerment Institute (Kenya), LK Recruitment (Rwanda), and Hire Me Africa (Rwanda). This five-day intensive training was designed to empower final-year students with essential employability and professional skills, preparing them for a seamless transition from University life to the world of work. The session began with a welcoming address and programme overview by Director of International Affairs and Partnership, followed by opening remarks from Prof. Ogechi Adeola, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs. Speaking during the opening, Prof. Adeola emphasized the University’s commitment to producing work-ready graduates who can compete globally and contribute meaningfully to Rwanda’s development agenda. Day one was facilitated by Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator (Rwanda), who focused on key themes including: Job application and interview preparation Personal branding and networking Connecting with potential employers Understanding current job market trends Language and communication proficiency Day 2 of the training led by CAP-Youth Empowerment Institute (Kenya) and LK Recruitment (Rwanda), focused on empowering final-year students with practical skills to successfully navigate the transition from University to the workplace.   The LK Recruitment Team led a highly engaging session on Job Interviews and Salary Negotiation, equipping students with the confidence and techniques needed to excel in professional interviews and negotiate their first salaries. Participants learned how to craft impactful self-introductions (“elevator pitches”), identify common interview pitfalls, and engage in salary discussions effectively through interactive role-play simulations. The CAP-Youth Empowerment Institute (Kenya) guided students through an inspiring session on “Life After University: Why Good Morals Matter,” emphasizing integrity, core values, and professionalism as essential foundations for long-term career success. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A segment where students engaged with the facilitators, gaining valuable career insights and practical advice. Day 3 focused on helping students bridge the gap between internship experiences and long-term employment opportunities. Facilitated by Hire Me Africa Tech Ltd (Rwanda), the sessions emphasized practical strategies for career growth, professional development, and mindset transformation. Participants explored key topics including: Standing out and adding value during internships Building strong professional relationships and seeking feedback Strategies for converting internship experiences into full-time job offers Personal growth, stress management, and motivation for career success Navigating emerging job market trends and effective job search approaches Through interactive discussions and role-play simulations, students gained invaluable insights into positioning themselves as exceptional candidates ready to thrive in competitive workplaces. Day 4 focused on equipping students with essential professional skills for building strong career networks and navigating workplace dynamics. Facilitated by the Professors Without Borders (PWB) team, the session provided insightful strategies for students preparing to transition into competitive professional environments. The workshop covered: Developing a personal networking strategy Effective networking techniques for both online and in-person settings Building, maintaining, and expanding professional networks Emotional intelligence, workplace etiquette, and communication skills Approaches to conflict management in professional spaces Introduction to entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial mindset The final day of the Career Accelerator Programme was highly practical, giving students a hands-on experience with digital tools and techniques essential for navigating the modern job market. Facilitated by the Professors Without Borders (PWB) team, the session focused on real-world application of technology to enhance employability, productivity, and career readiness. During this intensive session, students engaged in practical exercises on: Using technology for an efficient job search Leveraging digital tools for productivity and workplace efficiency Building a digital personal brand using social media and online portfolios Strengthening digital and technological skills relevant to today’s workplace Preparing for virtual interviews through simulated scenarios Understanding remote work environments and the growing role of AI in employment Developing future-ready competencies such as critical thinking and problem-solving The programme concluded with an engaging Q&A session and closing remarks delivered by the moderator, the Director of International Affairs and Partnerships. In her remarks, she commended the students for their active participation and commitment throughout the programme, and reaffirmed the University of Kigali’s dedication to producing graduates who are not only academically sound, but also professionally agile, digitally competent, and prepared to compete for opportunities in both local and global labour markets

UoK–UFS Partnership for Impact

On 21 Oct, 2025 our University was honoured to meet with our colleagues from UFS to explore collaboration opportunities between our two institutions. Discussions focused on innovation, research commercialisation, and impactful interdisciplinary projects aligned with the SDGs and AU Agenda 2063. UoK–UFS Partnership for Impact Key areas of potential collaboration include: Innovation & commercialization Applied business, economics & supply chain Green and circular economy development Equity and inclusiveness Mobility, virtual exchange & joint research We acknowledged and celebrated the ongoing partnership between Prof. Neneh and Prof. Ogechi, particularly regarding the joint grant application. Professional Development Workshop on Effective Teaching in the Digital Era UoK launched a three-day Professional Development Programme aimed at strengthening teaching excellence, innovation, and digital pedagogy among its academic staff. The training, facilitated by the Professors Without Borders (PWB)- team, focused on equipping lecturers with modern teaching tools and strategies to enhance learner engagement and instructional effectiveness. The workshop, themed “Effective Teaching in the Digital Era,” provided hands-on training in: Online and blended teaching techniques Artificial Intelligence (AI) in teaching and research Navigating and optimizing Moodle for course delivery Assessment enhancement methods Class management and learner engagement The opening session began with welcoming remarks and programme overview by Director of International Affairs and Partnership, followed by Prof. Ogechi Adeola, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic, who officially opened the workshop. Facilitators from Professors Without Borders (UK) led the first session on Innovative Online Teaching Techniques, highlighting how technology can be leveraged to create engaging and inclusive virtual classrooms. Participants explored strategies for blended and hybrid learning, the use of multimedia tools for course delivery, and best practices for maintaining student motivation in digital environments. Professional Development Workshop on Effective Teaching in the Digital Era The second day of the Faculty Development Programme focused on strengthening the quality of teaching and assessment at the University. The interactive workshop guided academic staff through innovative and practical approaches to evaluating student learning while enhancing classroom engagement. Key areas of discussion included: Designing authentic and competency-based assessments Using digital tools for formative and summative evaluation Integrating peer and self-assessment to foster collaboration Applying feedback strategies for continuous learning improvement Ensuring alignment between learning outcomes and assessment methods The session offered hands-on demonstrations and peer-sharing experiences, empowering faculty members to create learner-centered, outcome-driven assessment strategies. The final day of the training centred on the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital technologies in transforming higher education. Facilitated by the Professors Without Borders (PWB) team, the session provided faculty with actionable insights into leveraging AI for research, teaching, and curriculum innovation. The workshop explored key themes such as: Understanding the role of AI in modern education Using AI tools in teaching, scholarly writing, and curriculum design Maintaining ethical standards and academic integrity in AI usage Navigating Moodle for course delivery, including multimedia integration, assessment setup, and performance tracking The session concluded with a Q&A discussion and closing remarks by Prof Ogechi, who commended both facilitators and participants for their commitment to advancing teaching excellence and digital innovation at the UoK.    

Monash University Professor Visits University of Kigali

UoK was honoured to host Professor Felix Mavondo from Monash University, Australia, for a three-day academic engagement between June 23rd and 25th, 2025. The visit strengthened UoK’s ongoing efforts to foster global partnerships, impactful research collaborations, and innovative academic practices. Monash University Professor Visits University of Kigali Purpose of the Visit The primary objectives of Prof. Mavondo’s visit were to: Advance strategic discussions on joint research initiatives, focusing on Behaviour Change and Sustainable Development. Conduct a workshop on connecting researchers with industry, drawing from his extensive experience in graduate research-industry partnerships. Share insights on navigating research funding opportunities, particularly within the African and Asia-Pacific contexts. Facilitate roundtable dialogues on publication strategies, enhancing research visibility in high-impact journals. Engage with students and faculty through mentorship conversations and interactive seminars. Monash University Professor Visits University of Kigali Day 1: Strategic Engagement and Research Workshop The visit began with a warm welcome and institutional tour guided by the Director of International Affairs and Partnership, followed by meetings with the Vice Chancellor, DVCs, ADVC-RIE, the Deans and HoDs; who did presentations relating to their departments. After a brief introduction, Prof. Mavondo delivered an engaging workshop on Behaviour Change and Sustainable Development, providing actionable strategies for building impactful research projects. A roundtable discussion with faculty and administrative staff explored potential collaborations in research commercialization, joint projects, and institutional growth. Day 2: Student and Faculty Interaction The second day was dedicated to classroom engagement and mentorship seminars with undergraduate students from School of Business Management and Economics. Prof. Mavondo emphasised the fundamentals of success: Embracing a growth mindset Working smart rather than just hard Remaining curious and managing time effectively The value of strong, visionary leadership He also underscored the three-way commitment required for effective mentorship: the mentee, the mentor, and the facilitating institution. Day 3: Research Development and Publication Strategies The final day focused on grant proposal writing, research linkages, and publication strategies. Through this opportunity, the students will experience diverse teaching methods, participate in global learning environments, and develop critical skills that enhance their academic and professional growth. Global Exposure, Lifelong Impact: Student Exchange Highlights

As part of UoK’s commitment to holistic, world-class education, six students from the School of Business Management and Economics have recently participated in two transformative international exchange programs. Global Exposure, Lifelong Impact: Student Exchange Highlights From February 25 to June 17, 2025, four students; Bruce Kayitsinga Irakoze, Giramata Sabine, Mwebaze Wilber, and Lisa Cynthia Maranatha, took part in the Erasmus+ Mobility Programme at the University of Nicosia, Cyprus. Fully funded by Erasmus+, this experience offered more than academic enrichment. It promoted personal growth, global exposure, and cross-cultural learning. “My Erasmus journey at the University of Nicosia has been nothing short of transformative. Building on this global momentum, Ms. Michele and Mr. Bahati, also from the same school, departed on 30th June for a three-month exchange at DHBW University-Ravensburg, Germany, running through 30th September 2025. This programme, fully funded by our long-standing partner DHBW University provides hands-on exposure to international business practices and applied learning in a dual-education system. Both programmes reflect the University of Kigali’s strategic vision: to provide students with meaningful global experiences that enhance academic learning, cultural competence, and career readiness. On 30th June 2025, our University proudly hosted Prof. Adegoke Oke from Arizona State University (ASU) for a high-impact visit focused on driving innovation and sustainable supply chain management in Africa. Global Partnerships: Innovation & Collaboration Highlights of the Visit: Delivered a keynote lecture: “Tackling Africa’s Challenges: Innovations and Supply Chain Management.” Engaged in strategic discussions with UoK leadership on joint research, faculty exchanges, and funding opportunities. Shared expertise on innovation ecosystems, sustainable operations, and Africa’s evolving role in global supply chains. This collaboration reinforces UoK’s commitment to global partnerships and research-driven solutions that address Africa’s most pressing challenges. Expanding our Global Footprint Ahead of the staff exchange program, the Director of International Affairs and Partnership hosted two distinguished delegations: 23rd June: Representatives from Education Malaysia, including the Senior Regional Executive and the Director for the African Region at EMGS, under the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia. 25th June: The Director of International Relations & Confucius Institute and the International Coordinator for Recruitment and Admission from the International Business Academy, Denmark. UoK Shines in Poland

UoK Shines in Poland:From 12th–16th May 2025, our University proudly participated in Erasmus+ International Week hosted by WSG University in Bydgoszcz, Poland; a vibrant convergence of global institutions focused on advancing academic collaboration, innovation, and international visibility. This staff exchange plays a key role in UoK’s internationalisation journey, providing rich opportunities for joint teaching, research partnerships, and curriculum enhancement with institutions across Europe, Asia, and Africa. Highlights of the Exchange progarmmes: The week began with partner registration at Aula Maior, followed by a welcome address from the WSG University leadership, including the President, Rector, Vice-Rectors, and the Head of International Cooperation. The University of Kigali was represented by the Dean, School of Business Management and Economics, the Dean, School of Computing and Information Technology, and the Director of International Affairs and Partnership. The day’s keynote lecture on Artificial Intelligence for Science was delivered by Prof. Włodzisław Duch from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń and was attended by WSG’s senior management, delegates from partner universities, and students. Institutional showcase: UoK Director of International Affairs and Partnership presented the University vision and key achievements alongside other leading universities from Lithuania, Ukraine, Kosovo, Zambia, and Kazakhstan; positioning Rwanda as a rising academic hub. Academic exchange in action- UoK Deans delivered impactful lectures on Artificial Intelligence in Supply Chains and International Business to WSG’s international student community; demonstrating our expertise in applied research and global business education. Curriculum development support- UoK secured a partnership with WSG’s engineering faculty to provide external peer review for academic programmes under development; ensuring alignment with international standards. Strengthening ties-The UoK team engaged with potential collaborators for joint academic programmes, including Nursing and Midwifery with Eden University (Zambia) and research partnerships with Kadri Zeka University (Kosovo). Industry-academia synergy-A powerful session with Atos-Poland highlighted how digital transformation; through AI, cloud computing, and cybersecurity, can be integrated into academic programmes. Cultural diplomacy-The exchange promoted meaningful bonds through guided city tours, museum visits, and gift exchange ceremony, which solidified mutual respect and institutional goodwill. The Staff Week formally concluded with a cultural dinner attended by WSG senior leadership and all visiting delegates. As the evening drew to a close, UoK team led a gift handover ceremony, presenting tokens of appreciation to the WSG University delegation. WSG Vice-Rectors and Head of International Cooperation commended UoK for its dedication to promoting mutually beneficial international partnerships, particularly in the domains of staff and student mobility, joint teaching, and digital transformation.
