University of Kigali Hosts Gabon High Commissioner in Commitment to Supporting International Student Welfare.

UoK had the honour of hosting His Excellency Dr. Sylver Aboubakar Minko Mi Nseme,  High Commissioner of the Republic of Gabon to the Republic of Rwanda, at its Main Campus  on 19 February 2026. The visit reaffirmed the University’s commitment to promoting strong  relationships with diplomatic missions while promoting the welfare, success, and overall  experience of its international student community. This event highlighted how the University of Kigali Hosts Gabon High Commissioner in Commitment to Supporting International Student Welfare.

The High Commissioner was accompanied by Mr. Joe Francis Mouanda, International  Educator and Cultural Communicator, and Mr. Dan Joel De Souza, Consular Affairs Officer. 

Welcoming the delegation, the University leadership reaffirmed the institution’s dedication to  creating an inclusive, supportive, and globally connected learning environment where  international students can thrive academically, socially, and professionally. 

The engagement brought together Gabonese students studying at UoK, University leadership,  and representatives from key academic and administrative offices. The programme provided  an important platform for open dialogue, enabling students to interact directly with their 

country’s diplomatic representatives while discussing matters relating to their academic  journey, wellbeing, and personal development.

During the programme, the Directorate of International Student Services and Partnerships  presented an overview of the University’s international student support initiatives, highlighting  the comprehensive services available to international students from admission through  graduation.

The Academic Registrar also provided updates on academic and registration processes, while  His Excellency Dr. Sylver Aboubakar addressed the students, encouraging them to remain  focused on their studies, serve as positive ambassadors of Gabon, and take full advantage of  the opportunities available through higher education and international exposure. 

A lively interactive question-and-answer session allowed students to openly discuss issues  affecting their academic and personal experiences. The discussions reinforced the importance  of collaboration between the University and diplomatic missions in ensuring that international  students receive the support they need throughout their studies.

The visit reflects the University of Kigali’s broader internationalisation agenda, which places  student wellbeing at the centre of its global engagement efforts. Through regular interactions  with embassies, high commissions, and international partners, the University continues to  strengthen support systems that enhance student success, cultural integration, and a sense of  belonging for its diverse international community.
