CPA Edwin Mungai Waithaka serves as Chief Finance Officer (CFO) of the
University of Kigali. He has over two decades of experience in financial
management within higher education and corporate environments, with a
focus on financial reporting, budgeting, governance, and risk management.
In his CFO role, CPA Edwin is responsible for overseeing the University’s
financial planning and budgeting processes, accounting and financial
reporting, investment oversight, internal control systems, and compliance with
applicable regulatory and financial reporting frameworks. He works with the
University’s leadership and governance structures to support the alignment of
financial resources with institutional priorities.
Prior to joining the University of Kigali, he held senior finance roles at the
University of Nairobi. His responsibilities included revenue administration,
funds disbursements, payroll management, budgeting, and financial reporting,
as well as supporting the implementation of financial systems and process
improvements.
He holds a Master of Business Administration in Strategic Management from
the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from the
Catholic University of Eastern Africa. He is a Certified Public Accountant of
Kenya (CPA-K) and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants
of Kenya (ICPAK). He is currently pursuing a PhD in Business Administration.
