The University of Kigali (UoK) officially welcomed its new cohort of students through a series of inspiring orientation sessions held across the Day, Evening, and Weekend programmes. The sessions were designed to go beyond a traditional introduction, focusing on mindset transformation, discipline, integrity, and personal responsibility as the foundation of academic and professional success.

The Chairman of the Board of Promoters, Prof. Manasseh Nshuti, reminded students that university marks a defining turning point in their lives: “University is the beginning of your transformation.” He encouraged students to cultivate discipline, punctuality, and adaptability, emphasizing that while we may not choose where we are born, we have the power to determine who we become and where we are going.

The Chairman of the Governing Body, Mr. Philibert Afrika, urged students to take full ownership of their learning journey while reaffirming the university’s commitment to delivering quality education through highly qualified faculty, including professors and PhD holders. “We are here to make sure that what we promised you is what you get.” He emphasized that education is not merely about earning a certificate, but about acquiring knowledge, skills, and competencies that shape lifelong success.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. George Kimathi, highlighted ongoing institutional efforts to enhance graduate employability, encouraging students to take advantage of professional certifications, practical experiences, and career development opportunities available alongside their academic programmes.

Prof. Ogechi Adeola challenged students to embrace integrity, excellence, and continuous self-improvement, noting: “There is no traffic jam on the lane called the extra mile.”

From the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration (HR), Prof. James Abugre Baba, students were encouraged to reflect on the value they will carry beyond graduation, recognizing that their greatest asset is their own potential. He emphasized that the university journey should not only lead to a degree but also prepare students for a meaningful, impactful, and purpose-driven future.

At the University of Kigali, orientation is not just a welcome, it is the first step in a transformational journey toward leadership, knowledge, innovation, and impact.
