Day One
The University of Kigali (UoK) made a remarkable impact on Day One of the International Conference on Green Sustainable Development (ICGSD) 2026, showcasing its academic leadership, research excellence, and commitment to advancing sustainable development solutions. The University was prominently represented across high-level panels, session leadership, and scholarly presentations. Dr. Ronald Kwena participated in the prestigious Co-Chairs’ Panel Address on the theme “The Role of Higher Learning Institutions in Fostering Sustainable Development,” contributing valuable perspectives on how universities can drive sustainable transformation through research, innovation, and policy engagement.
In addition, Prof. Wasajja–Kiwanuka chaired the Social Equity and Sustainable Development Session, guiding critical discussions on inclusive and sustainable growth.
UoK scholars also presented impactful research addressing key sustainability challenges. Dr. Martin Gachukia delivered a presentation on “The Role of Natural Gas in Sustainable Logistics, Maritime Decarbonization and Africa’s Emerging Potential,” highlighting opportunities for cleaner energy transitions in Africa’s transport and logistics sectors.
Dr. Ronald Kwena presented research on “The Influence of Project Leadership on the Success of Women-Empowerment Projects in Rwanda: A Case Study of the PROFIFA Project,” offering insights into leadership practices that enhance development outcomes.
Luzinda Umar shared a study titled “A Model for Sustainable Sourcing in Rwandan SMEs: Policy, Technology, Environmental Drivers and Validation,” focusing on sustainable supply chain practices for small and medium enterprises. Meanwhile, Jules Sibomana presented “Developing a Sustainable Climate-Resilient Economic Growth and Development Model for Rwanda,” contributing to policy-oriented solutions for climate-resilient national development.
Through these engagements, the University of Kigali reaffirmed its role as a leading academic institution actively contributing to global conversations on sustainability, inclusive development, and innovation-driven solutions for Africa and beyond.
