The International Conference on Green Sustainable Development (ICGSD) 2026 concluded on a high note, highlighting the University of Kigali’s growing role in advancing global dialogue on sustainability, innovation, and resilient development systems.

A key highlight of the conference was the Keynote Address on “Circular Economy, Lean Practices and Resilient Supply Chains for Sustainable Development,” delivered by the University’s invited international partner, Dr. Simon Peter Nadeem from LEARN Logistics by Kuehne Foundation, Germany. His presentation emphasized the importance of integrating circular economy principles, lean management practices, and resilient supply chains to drive sustainable economic transformation.

The conference also featured strong academic contributions from the University of Kigali. Prof. Wasajja Kiwanuka participated in a high-level panel discussion on Indigenous Knowledge Systems, hosted by the Technology Innovation Agency (South Africa), where experts explored the role of indigenous knowledge in addressing contemporary sustainability challenges.

In addition, Dr. Martin Gachukia chaired the Sustainable Business, Management and Economics Session, facilitating scholarly discussions on sustainable business models, economic resilience, and responsible management practices.

The conference culminated in a distinguished Closing Gala Dinner Keynote Address delivered by the ICGSD Board Chair, Dr. Ronald Kwena, who reflected on the conference outcomes and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between academia, industry, and policymakers in advancing sustainable development initiatives.

During his remarks, Dr. Kwena expressed appreciation to the University of Kigali’s distinguished international partners who participated in the conference, including:
