Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Rwanda

About the program

SPEP provides CPA tuition for persons who wish to qualify and work as professional accountants, auditors, finance managers, tax specialists and financial consultants.

The examinations are held four times a year in February, May, August and November.

CPA Rwanda has a total of 18 papers covered in three levels of Foundation (8 papers), Intermediate (4 papers) and advanced level (6 papers).

Entry Qualifications

  • Senior Six Certificate with two (2) principle passes or its equivalent or;
  • Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) certificate from ICPAR or its equivalent or;
  • Bachelor’s degree holders from recognized universities or;
  • Diploma in Accounting or Accounting certificate from a recognized university or;
  • Professional Accountancy body plus two (2) year’s work experience or;
  • Maturity entry route:
  •          Ordinary level with at least 6 years of practical work experience
  •          More than 10 years of relevant work experience with proof from a     recognized employer for candidates with qualifications different cited above

Duration of Study

Depends on the number of papers attempted and passed in every examination sitting. Between 1 to 3 years.

Aims and Objectives

The Aims and Objectives of the CPA qualification is to produce;

  • Highly qualified professionals in accountancy and auditing with technical competency to prepare, maintain, present and analyse financial information in oral and written forms.
  • Highly qualified managers and leaders with the ability to make sound judgement and informed business decisions.
  • Business advisers who act with integrity by upholding ethical standards and professional values and attitudes in their conduct when discharging duties.
  • Professionals who are able to create and deliver innovative solutions as responsible corporate citizens able to address business problems in a complex and dynamic business environment.
