University of Kigali Musanze Campus Football Team on Friday 22nd Feb, 2019 engaged the Musanze District employees football club in a thrilling game that was watched by staff from the two neigbouring institutions , students and the local community in the area.
The game’s only solitary goal of the day was scored by Benjamin Niyigena in the 75th minute inside the second half.
The two teams entred the pitch determined to put the game to each one’s advantage but the University’s energetic and first running players denied the hosts chances and by the final whitsle, the Musanze District team was one goal down.
The friendly match was intended to harmonize good friendship and collaboration between the campus and other neighboring administrative and non-administrative institutions in the District.
It is also part of the University programmes to develop extra-cullicular activities, one of the key elements for the Institution’s growth. The campus management believes that this is a crucial tool for marketing and community outreach in the region and also to ensure that staff and students get engaged in receational activities that promote sports for good health.
Speaking, after the game, Mr. Viater Bangayandushya, the Deputy Principal, UoK Musanze Campus, congratulated players from both sides for having displayed a good game. He emphasized the University’s commitment to ensure that it becomes a powerful sports house among the Higher Institutions of Learning in the country not only with the main campus but also with its sister campus.
“University of Kigali is committed not only as an institution that concentrates on academia only but also in other activities that create love and friendship among communities like promoting sports, participating in monthly umuganda community work and other corporate social responsibility activities” said the Deputy Principal.
This friendly match follows other similar sports activities that the campus has been engaged in before in other sports disciplines like volley ball and basket ball. University of Kigali Promoters and senior management have put sports development among the top priorities that will enable the expansion of the University as a strong institution of learning, not only in Rwanda but the entire region.
