University of Kigali plans to intensify its efforts in sports activities and become a sports power among the Higher Institutions of learning, not only in Rwanda but throughout the entire region. This was revealed on Sunday November, 19, 2017, by Prof. NSHUTI Manasseh, the University’s chairman, Board of Promoters while officiating at the launch of the University’s sports activities at Cercle Sportif de Kigali in Nyarugenge District of Kigali City.
‘’ We have been undertaking sports but this time we decided to strengthen this activity in all sports disciplines. That’s why we are here. A student who does sports becomes health and can study very well. Our priority is first volleyball, where we intend to have a strong team come 2018 that can compete on national and international level. However, we look forward to also have football and basket ball teams’’, stated Prof. Nshuti.

He urged students to develop interest and make it a culture at the University.
The University has an agreement with the management of Cercle Sportif, where the later will be allowing students to come and do sports at the identified appropriate time.
Mr. NSHIMIYIMANA Innocent, the sports and culture officer pointed out that management is keen to develop sports and there is no dought that the university will have strong teams in the near future.
“This is yet another aspect of development for this fast growing University. Before the students never knew each one’s capacity in terms of sports activities but now such gathering and participation in sports will even strengthen the relationship of students’’, said Innocent, a sports administrator.

The University Guild Council President, Aline MPINGANZIMA, thanked the University management for investment in the student’s social welfare through the promotion of sports.
‘’ We are determined to utilize this advantage and train our students to become strong sportsmen and women’’, said the Guild President.
The event was graced by a friendly football match between University of Kigali and the Adventist University of Kigali (UNILAK), in which the visitors beat UoK 5-0.

This sports launch ceremony was also attended by the University Administrator, Mr. Paul Jules NDAMAGE, the Director of Communication and Public Relations and acting Dean of Students, Mr. Charles KAMURU, other University officials and students from various university faculties.
