Promoters of University of Kigali led by the chairman board of promoters, Prof. NSHUTI Manasseh, Sunday 17 September, 2017 met students from undergraduate and master’s programs in a convocation meeting attended also by the University’s senior managers and members of staff.
The purpose of this interactive meeting, held at the university’s main campus in Kacyiru, was to exchange ideas on the current status of the academic progress including the development of quality standards that are needed for the expansion of the university and the training professionals that can compete successfully on the job market.
In his welcoming remarks, the acting vice chancellor, Prof. Danson MUSYOKI, welcomed the students, including new ones and staff, saying that this was a crucial meeting to discuss with the participants what they expect from the University and what is expected from them.

He told the participants that setting academic quality standards was the main priority of the University and efforts will continue to transform the institution to make it the best University in Rwanda in training professionals in various fields of study.
‘’Discipline and respect to the Institution’s programmes is part of the university culture and management is keen to ensure that this is effected as it is paramount to the promotion of quality standards at the University. On our side, we shall ensure that we give you the best academic services that you need” Prof. Musyoki, a Kenyan Professor told the students.
In his remarks, the chairman of Board of Promoters, Prof. NSHUTI Manasseh, reminded the participants about the vision and mission of the University. He requested the students to work hard and acquire knowledge that will transform their lives and that of the country at large.
‘’You are the image of the university and you need to be models and create uniqueness that can make us different from others in terms of quality, discipline and professional standards. Students should take time to read hard and carry out research to improve more on their academic standards and aim higher to acquire qualifications that are crucial in professional development” said Prof. Nshuti.

Reacting to questions raised by students that focused mainly on the services offered by the University, Prof NSHUTI said that strategies that have been put in place to address the matters, were now being implemented and the university has acquired experienced managers, well trained lecturers and the needed education infrastructure, materials and equipment that is needed to make the University one of the leading private higher institutions of learning in the country.
‘’ We are trying our best to offer you quality education. However, we also expect you to be serious and put in more efforts to perform better and become professionals that are ready to make UoK proud and create a difference not only at your places of work but also to the Rwandan society “ pointed out the University’s chairman of the Board of Promoters.

Mr. AFRIKA Phillibert, the chairman Board of Directors, talked about mainly the dimensions that the University can focus on to become an Institution of high quality standards that include; effective communication, ability, competence, responsibility and credibility among others. He urged the management and lecturers to embrace the above visional elements that would make University of Kigali as a leading Higher Institution of learning not only in Rwanda but in the region as a whole.
All the other speakers at the meeting cautioned students to be serious with studies and embrace the use of Information and Communication Technology to be successful in their studies. The meeting that followed similar ones held earlier in the week for day and evening session students was also attended by other Promoters, senior management officials, heads of departments and students from different university faculties.
