As part of its drive towards becoming the centre of academic excellence and research, University of Kigali has embarked on the recruitment of professionals and experts that would transform the Institution and make it one of the leading higher Institutions of learning not only in Rwanda but in the entire Region.
The recent appointments include professionals not only from Rwanda but from other parts of the world ranging from Europe, Asia and Africa.
The latest Academic and Administrative experts to join the University’s senior management include:
Prof. Dr. Murty S. KOPPARTHI, Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics (DVCA).
An Indian National, currently serves as the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics at University of Kigali. He was the Acting Principal, Dean, School of Business and held other important academic and administrative positions at the former School of Finance and Banking/College of Business and Economics (CBE), University of Rwanda over the past 10 years. He also acted as the MBA Coordinator for the MsM/SFB International MBA Program offered in collaboration with Maastricht School of Management (MSM), Netherlands. He was formerly Associate Professor in the Department of Commerce & Management Studies, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, AP, India where he was the Assistant Director of Distant and Executive MBA Programmes.
Prof. Murty served as the Faculty Coordinator of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women Entrepreneur Certificate Programme (GSECP) for the first time in Rwanda. An active member of the Leadership Academy of Goldman Sachs, he was invited to the conference which held in July 2009 in New York, where he participated actively. At CBE Prof. Murty also served as Faculty Advisor of the CBE Entrepreneurship Club and had conducted several entrepreneurship training programmes for government institutions.
Prof. Murty holds a Doctorate in Management from the Department of Commerce & Management Studies of Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, India. He has supervised a number of M.Phil. and Ph.D. students and has substantially published papers in several journals in the field of management.
Prof. Dr. Huseyin DEMIR, LLM, PhD, Director of Quality Assurance (DQA)
A Turkish National, is a well experienced academic professional. He has his graduate degree in the Public Administration area from one of the best institutions in Turkey which is well established and has a great institutional culture and quality for 150 years. He possesses a law master degree from the University of Wales and PhD degree from Leeds University in the United Kingdom. He has been in the academic world for 24 years and taken many teaching and managerial responsibilities in Turkey, Poland, Lithuania and Georgia. He had many Master and PhD level students in his academic life. He has served as a Head of Department, a Vice Dean, Dean and Vice Rector in various institutions. He values hard working, organized and timely efficient efforts in any area. He is dedicated to improve the teaching and managerial works at the University. He sees students as a major and the most important part of the higher institution and open to any suggestion or critiques.
Prof. Dr. Nzabuheraheza, Principal of University of Kigali Musanze Campus, Northern Province
A Rwandan National, is a Professor of Bio-Technologies, Agro-Industries, Agri-business and Agricultural economics. The Professor is also an Instructor with more than 25 years of teaching experience in Higher Learning Institutions of Rwanda. Ex-Director of Research and consultancy, Ex-HoD of Biotechnologies Department. Senior Researcher and Consultant under MINEDUC and UNESCO. He possesses a Post-Graduate Certificate (PGC) in Pedagogy obtained on 29th July 2016 and delivered by the University of Rwanda-College of Education (UR-CE). His further Academic experience lies with his Post-Doctoral paper done at the University of Genoa in Italy on phyto-chemistry of tea using modern HPLC and Mass Spectrometry. He was the Peer Reviewer of Kenyan AJFAND scientific Journals in area of Agro-industries from October 2015. Expert Scientist Member and Peer Reviewer of the AJFAND Editorial Board in Kenya headed by Founder Editor-in-Chief, AJFAND: Prof. Dr. Ruth ONIANG’O, PhD, from Nairobi-Kenya. He has published more than 40 reliable scientific papers published in national and international scientific journals.The Rwandan Professor brings a wealth of hands on leadership experience to University of Kigali and is ready to provide fully his professional inputs to the Institution’s mission of educating young Rwandans and Regional students and Citizen-leaders of the World through the University’s commitment to provide quality higher education programs that meet well the labour market and development needs of Rwanda and the Region as a whole.
Dr. Lydia EMURON, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research and School of Post Graduate (DVCR/SPG).
A Ugandan National, is not only a specialist in administration and management but also a multiskilled and an interdisciplinary professional.
In particular, DR Emuron holds a Bachelor of Science (Makerere University) Bachelor of Business Administration (Cavandish University), Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Makerere University), Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management (Makerere University), Masters in management studies degree (Uganda Management Institute) and PhD (Nkumba University).
Dr EMURON has accumulated a total of over 16 years experience in administration management, business, academics, research, project management and consultancy in both government and private institutions.
Previously she has worked in different capacities as assistant lecturer, lecturer, senior lecturer, acting Director of SPGS, assistant academic registrar, assistant university secretary, deputy university secretary and head of campus.
This is an addition to the various consultancy assignments. The Ugandan ministry of education and various universities have beneficiated from her services including NDEJJE University, KYAMBOGO University, BUGEMA University and Uganda management institute. She has supervised several students and done a number of personal research projects in the field of human resource management.
The Ugandan national also holds various jobs enhancement certificates. She therefore brings a wealth of hands on leadership experience to the University of Kigali.
Mr. NDAMAGE Paul Jules, University Administrator (UA)
A Rwandan National, is serving as the University Administrator of University of Kigali. He is now pursuing his Master’s Degree in Governance Studies since 2016 at University of Rwanda (UR).
He is currently writing his final thesis on “The role of the Media in Good Governance of Rwanda after the Genocide against the Tutsi in 1994’’. The case of Rwanda Broadcasting Agency.Mr. NDAMAGE has a Graduate Degree in Demography from Kigali Independent University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Communication from former National University of Rwanda, today UR.
Mr .NDAMAGE is an experienced Local Administrator. He served as mayor of Kicukiro District in Kigali City, for two terms, where he received four consecutive trophies from H.E the President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul KAGAME for his outstanding performance in the implementation of IMIHIGO (Performance Contract).
Mr. Paul Jules NDAMAGE served as a professional Journalist with Radio and TV Rwanda and occupied the functions of Program Manager for 10 years. He also represented the National Broadcasting Agency, as a correspondent, at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda that was based in Arusha, Tanzania, for 2 years.
Mr. Paul NDAMAGE has experience in organizing team work spirit for better and greater achievements for the institution he is working for. He has commitment to serve University of Kigali and is fully supportive to the University Moto“Labor for the Future
Grégoire L. Piller, Director, University Relations & Partnerships
A Swiss National, is the Director of University Relations & Partnerships. Previously, he was the Head of Development and Partnerships at the Sustainable Development Goals Center for Africa (SDGC/A) in Kigali.
From 2013 to 2016, Grégoire worked at Strathmore University in Kenya in different capacities: Head, Marketing and External Affairs at Strathmore Center for Sustainability Leadership, Head of External Affairs in the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor Research, Deputy Director of the Advancement and External Affairs (fundraising) Department at Strathmore Business School and Executive Manager at Strathmore Business School.
Additionally, he is currently the Head of African Affairs for the International Academy for Social and Economic Development (AISES), an academy based in Rome and Brussels; the Vice-President of the Italy-Kenya trade organisation (AIIK) and the Co-Funder and Director of The Sustainable Developement Ventures, an impact investment fund based in Dubai.
Grégoire serves in several advisory boards; Ongoza Fondation, EshaliAfric, Nyatha Fund, Lorcan Investments, Bushra Energy, Kikisa Limited in Kenya, Diomira Foundation in Italy and Kuwekeza Holdings in Dubai.
He has spoken and organized symposia, conferences, seminars and workshops between Europe and Africa. He has represented the Holy See (Vatican City State) at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) 10th Ministerial Conference, the 14th United Nation Conference on Trade and Development, the 6th Tokyo International Conference of Africa’s Development and he was the Head of Delegation of the Holy See during the 2nd High-level Meeting of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation.
He is a former Vice-corporal (warrant officer) of the Pontifical Swiss Guard from 2005 to 2013 and was awarded, by Pope Benedict XVI the Benemerenti in 2008 and the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice in 2012. He is a member of the Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK), the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and the Project Management Institute (PMI). He speaks French, Italian and English.
