The acting Vice chancellor of University of Kigali, Prof Danson MUSYOKI Kimeu, Thursday 27 April, 2017 received newly recruited Lecturers at the main campus in Kacyiru, Kigali. They have joined the University to undertake assignments in Kigali and at the Musanze Campus, Northern Rwanda.
In his welcome remarks, Prof. Musyoki congratulated the new staff members saying that they should use their skills and knowledge to train the students and mould them into professionals and good citizens ready to contribute to the development of the country.
He however cautioned them on Research, which he said was among the priorities of the institution that all lecturers had to embrace as part of their assignment.
“We are developing a guideline, where every lecturer will be required to produce two papers every semester. You have decided to join academics and research is one of the pre-requisites for the development of your career that involves further studies,’’ said the Vice Chancellor.
He urged the lecturers to respect students and inculcate the culture of discipline and professionalism in the student community. The new Lecturers were advised to be serious and give the students quality lectures as per the quality standards of the University.
Speaking at the same occasion, the Director of quality assurance and research, Prof. Hussein DAMIR, reminded the lecturers that they should always prepare their syllabus very well and include in the academic resources that students can consult to acquire more knowledge and skills that can make them good professionals ready for the job market.

He also urged lecturers to respect students and encourage them to think independently. ‘’ You should exercise a high level of encouraging students to have critical thinking using your pedagogical knowledge and technological devices,’’ said Prof. Damir, a Turkish national and senior academician.
He pointed out that management will organize a workshop soon to guide lecturers on how effectively they can carry out their duties and responsibilities.
On his part, the acting Registrar, Mr. Herbert TWAGIRAYEZU, said that his office as the entry point to the University has reaffirmed students that they made the right choice to join University of Kigali. “ It’s a challenge to us to prove that our university can offer the best and therefore I urge you to train our students very well so that they compete successfully on the job market.
Finally he requested the lecturers to ensure that students records are kept well so that Information is always available for any reference that might be required during their time of study.
Other speakers at the occasion included: The Dean of Faculty of Business Management and Economics, Dr. Prosper NKURUNZIZA, the Dean of Students Ms Pierrette MANISHIMWE, the Associate Dean, Evening and Weekend Programmes, Mr. Nicholas KATENDE, the Director of Communications and Public Relations and Lecturer of Economics, Mr. Charles KAMURU. Present also was the Dean, Faculty of Law, Dr Alfred MWENEDATA and the Ag Dean, Faculty of IT and Architecture, Ms Mercy NYAKUNDI and other University officials.
